HEALTH BENEFITS OF CURRY LEAVES


Normally south Indian people use curry leaves in their recipies for flavouring purpose. Most of the people throw them away while eating.


Curry leaf has many herbal medicinal properties and it’s a most prominently used herb in south Indian cooking.



curry leaves has vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin B2, vitamin C, calcium and iron in plenty. This is an ideal herb for people suffering from the ill effects of diabetes.

Healing Power and Curative Properties of Curry Leaves Curry leaves possess the qualities of an herbal tonic. They strengthen the functions of stomach and promote its action.

Fresh juice of curry leaves, with lime juice and sugar, is an effective medicine in the treatment of morning sickness, nausea and vomiting due to indigestion and excessive use of fats.

The curry leaves, ground to a fine paste and mixed with buttermilk, can also be taken on an empty stomach with beneficial results in case of stomach upsets.

Tender curry leaves are useful in diarrhea, dysentery and piles.

The root of the curry plant also has medicinal properties. The juice of the root can be taken to relieve pain associated with the kidneys.

Liberal intake of curry leaves is considered beneficial in preventing premature greying of hair. These leaves have the property to nourish the hair roots. New hair roots that grow are healthier with normal pigment.

When curry leaves are boiled in coconut oil till they are reduced to a blackened residue, the oil forms an excellent hair tonic to stimulate hair growth and in retaining the natural pigmentation.

Curry leaves can be effectively used to treat burns, bruises and skin eruptions. They should be applied as a poultice over the affected areas.

Fruits of the tree, which are berries, are edible. They are green when raw, but purple when ripe. Juice of these berries, mixed with equal proportion of lime-juice, is an effective fluid for external application in insect stings and bites of poisonous creatures.

Eating ten fresh fully grown curry leaves every morning for three months will help to prevent diabetes due to heredity factors. It also cures diabetes due to obesity, as the leaves have weight reducing properties. As the weight drops, the diabetic patients stop passing sugar in urine.

Most of the pregent women take curry leaves powder mixing with other spices compulsorily (after delivery) in south India.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF PUDINA


Pudina is the most traditionally used herb in Ayurveda. It has various health benefits. Ayurvedic physicians recommend pudina leaves and its preparations for indigestion. It has antibacterial and antifibrile properties. Essential oils and menthol are extracted from pudina plant. The oil is an effective treatment for headache, cough, colic and vomiting

 Pudina acts as a good blood cleanser. It is antibacterial and antiseptic. 

Applying pudina leaves paste on the face will reduce the growth of pimples.


 


   
 Pudina is an effective remedy for mouth ulcers, swollen gums and toothaches. 

Crushed leaves of pudina are used to treat insect bites. 

 Fresh pudina leaves are crushed and sniffed for relief from dizziness.

 Fresh leaves should be heated on a low flame. Pound the leaves and apply when still warm on the paining joints and muscles. 

Soak 2 tbsp of chopped pudina leaves in hot water for 30 minutes and strain. It is ready to use as a mouthwash.

Vitamins and medical uses of Coriander

 
Cilantro(Coriander) herb is native to Mediterranean and Asia Minor (Turkey) regions. This perennial plant requires well-draining fertile soil supplemented with warm summer climates to flourish. It grows 1 to 2 feet in height and features dark green, hairless, soft leaves that are variable in shape, broadly lobed at the base of the plant, and slender and feathery higher on near the flowering stems. The leaves and stem have slightly citrus flavor. It bears umbels of small white or light pink flowers in midsummer, followed by round-oval shaped aroamtic seeds.



 
Coriander seeds , used as spice, are round to oval in shape, yellowish brown in color with vertical ridges and have flavor that is aromatic, sweet and citrus, but also slightly peppery.


 
Health benefits of cilantro (coriander)

Cilantro herb contains no cholesterol; but is rich in anti-oxidants and dietary fiber which help reduce LDL or "bad cholesterol" while increasing HDL or "good cholesterol" levels.

The leaves and seeds contain many essential volatile oils such as borneol, linalool, cineole, cymene, terpineol, dipentene, phellandrene, pinene and terpinolene.

The leaves and stem tips are also rich in numerous anti-oxidant polyphenolic flavonoids such as quercetin, kaempferol, rhamnetin and epigenin.

The herb is a good source of minerals like potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, and magnesium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps control heart rate and blood pressure. Iron is essential for red blood cell production.

Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase.
It is also rich in many vital vitamins including folic-acid, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin-A, beta carotene, vitamin-C that are essential for optimum health. Vitamin-C is a powerful natural antioxidant. Cilantro leaves provides 30% of daily recommended levels of vitamin-C.

It provides 6748 IU of vitamin-A per 100 g, about 225% of recommended daily intake. Vitamin-A, an important fat soluble vitamin and anti-oxidant, is also required for maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin and is also essential for vision.

Consumption of natural foods rich in vitamin-A and flavonoids (carotenes) helps body protect from lung and oral cavity cancers.

Cilantro is one of the richest herbal sources for vitamin K; provides about 258% of DRI. Vitamin-K has potential role in bone mass building by promoting osteotrophic activity in the bones. It also has established role in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease patients by limiting neuronal damage in their brain.

The coriander seeds oil have found application in many traditional medicines as analgesic, aphrodisiac, anti-spasmodic, deodorant, digestive, carminative, fungicidal, lipolytic (weight loss), stimulant and stomachic.
                    
Cilantro leaves provides only 39 cal/100 g, but their phyto-nutrients profile is       noless than any high calorie food source; be it nuts, pulses or cereals or meat group.
